Chapel

Chapel is where we intentionally break from the busyness of life and seek to gather together in Christ's proper noun.

Chapel gatherings are designed to encourage greater intimacy with God and one another while too inviting usa to reply to God's calling to government minister and serve in our greater community. Chapels engage a diverse number of voices from outside the PLNU community also equally PLNU kinesthesia, staff, and students. Wednesdays are usually our Community Chapel days, when the Chapel preaching squad will teach from Scripture in connection with the Chapel theme for the year. Information technology is the university's belief that Chapel has an important role in Christian liberal arts education and, as such, is required for all undergraduate students.

Morning Chapels

Morning time chapels are unique gatherings where we worship in song, participate in communion, and engage in the prayer ministry building at the altar. In addition to morning chapel offerings, PLNU offers students an evening chapel gathering on Thursday that provides an opportunity to hear from students, staff, and kinesthesia offer encouragement and sharing reflections about their organized religion journey.

Chapel Requirements and Attendance Policies

Chapel Omnipresence Policy

Process

Morning Chapel begins at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Fri, and is typically held in Brown Chapel. On Wednesdays, Chapel is offered at the Betoken Loma campus and the Liberty Station campus. Evening Time Out Chapel begins at nine p.yard. on Th in Dark-brown Chapel.
To receive Chapel credit, students must browse in and out of Chapel using their ID card at the archway doors. They must scan in no later than 9:50 a.m. for morning Chapel, ix:05 p.thou. for Fourth dimension Out Chapel and remain in Chapel for the unabridged Chapel service. A one-way scan will non be counted equally a Chapel credit.
Transmission scans are bachelor for those students who don't accept their ID card with them, but are express to iii manual scans per semester. Transmission scans recorded after three in a semester will non receive credit.
Chapel attendance may be viewed through a student'due south Workday account located on the website (workday.pointloma.edu/). Attendance

Students enrolled in 12 or more units have the following requirements:

Freshmen: 30/54 chapel credits per semester
Sophomores: 27/54 chapel credits per semester
Juniors: 23/54 chapel credits per semester
Seniors: 20/54 chapel credits per semester

Commuter students without classes before 12:30 p.grand. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays or attention just Tuesday/Thursday classes will receive an automatic reduction to their chapel requirements:

Freshman and sophomore commuter students are required to attend 18/54* chapels per semester.
Inferior and senior commuter students are required to attend 12/54* chapels per semester.

For students 23 years* of historic period or older OR students carrying less than 12 units, at that place is no required Chapel attendance. All students are welcomed and encouraged to come to all Chapels.

*Students must be 23 years of age by the start 24-hour interval of class

Failure to meet the minimum requirements will effect in Chapel fines:

Accountability

All students are expected to attend Chapel as required. Requirements are communicated via PLNU email, Workday student portal, and available at pointloma.edu/chapel. Requirements are always on a per semester basis.

Misrepresentation

Misuse of an ID card when scanning in or out of Chapel (including either manual or electronic scans) volition consequence in an automatic $75 fine for each participating party. Each participant in violation of this policy volition not receive credit for the chapel in question, and may be discipline to other discipline.

Chapel Beliefs

Each person is expected to accordingly participate in the Chapel feel in accordance with PLNU's Core Values and Educatee Conduct guidelines found in the Undergraduate Student Handbook. This includes, for example, refraining from conversation, standing when asked to stand, and demonstrating respect for those who are leading Chapel.
Each person is expected to listen attentively to each chapel speaker as an deed of hospitality and grace. Reading magazines, notebooks or books, using digital players, smartphones, notepads or computers, and doing homework are inappropriate during Chapel.
Food is not to exist consumed in Chapel. Beverages in non-dispensable containers are allowed.
Abuse of the Chapel facility by putting feet on the furniture or defacing the belongings is non appropriate.

Failure to cooperate with the above guidelines may result in any of the following consequences:

Alert - The person confronted may exist verbally warned.
Severe or Repeated Violations - Incidents may be reported to the Office Student Life and Germination resulting in a meeting with the University Chaplain and/or Dean of Students.
Review of Enrollment - Continued disrespect in Chapel, or lack of follow through on consequences will result in a review of the person's connected privilege of enrollment at PLNU. Consequences may include suspension or de-enrollment.
